Vergisson is a pretty village in the Saone et Loire region of Burgundy in eastern France, nestled between two prominent rocks in the area, Vergisson and Solutré. The traditional Mâconnais houses are in the main built from local pierre d’or (gold-coloured stone) surrounded by vineyards that utilise every available space. From the village you can see the River Saone flowing through Mâcon and the flat plains beyond to the Bresse region and Jura mountains.
From Vergécosse there are several good walks. If you are feeling energetic climb either one or both of the rocks – maybe breaking for lunch at home or at the Auberge (with bar) in the village centre. The tourist office is very helpful with local information, walks and directions further afield.
